I will try to explain with an example:
I buy from Farmaline.
They sell vitamins and also some products for my dogs (Vectra against ticks e.g.).
Because of this discussion in another thread:
I entered an income of 10€ on payee Farmaline:
When I click on the arrow to the right I see:
First of all this should not come in the category Income. This way every negative entry in a subcategory will create a new subcategory which will make an overview way to big
So : You create a category in Expense or Income.
When you book something in the Category that is an expense category it should be booked there even if it is a negative income.
I tried entering -10 as an expense but that opened the calculator.
When I am booking I see category supplies but that is a subcategory. One must absolutely see category and subcategory (but not expense/income) because the category you opt for is already in one of these). I may have subcategory supplies in all sorts of categories.
I will continue in next post
I
The way categories work now is a no-go for me.
Re: The way categories work now is a no-go for me.
I solved it this way:
I booked it as a payment but changed the category in expense - Healthcare - Chemist Pharmacy
I got a popup about categories but cannot reproduce it.
And the strange thing is that now I cannot reproduce any of this.
I will try again later on and come back here.

Re: The way categories work now is a no-go for me.
You must have had more income assigned to this category than payments when Maxim Money was determining whether categories were Income or Expense. If you want Pet Care > Supplies assigned as Expense rather than Income, simply edit the Category and change the Parent Category for Pet Care.First of all this should not come in the category Income. This way every negative entry in a subcategory will create a new subcategory which will make an overview way to big
This was a change I just made. I might need to tweak that.I tried entering -10 as an expense but that opened the calculator.
To see Category and Subcategory (or Primary and Secondary category in Maxim Money), simply right-click on the Category dropdown, and select Display > Full tree excluding Root. One must absolutely see category and subcategory (but not expense/income) because the category you opt for is already in one of these)

I just did that. There are 3 options. They all show the same.
I very often have several subcategories for one payee.
I am going to book the same payments in Microsoft Money and Maxim Money to show you how much longer it takes.
I think that will make my issue easier to understand
I was now able to reproduce the message - see MM4
