Statement Reconciliation
There is now a new button on the main toolbar when you have an account register selected:
When you click on this, it brings up a dialog like so:
This allows you to enter the start and end amounts from a bank or credit card statement, along with the associated dates. You can enter any interest detailed on the statement here, if you haven't already added this to your register. Once you have the balances entered, clicking OK will highlight the selected date range in your register. It will add a checkbox against each transaction. This allows you to manually check off each transaction in your register against the transactions in your statement. If your start or end balance do not match the targets, balance correction transactions will be added to adjust, making it clear how far off target you are.
In the statusbar at the bottom of the screen, a summary of the selected transactions is displayed:
By checking off the items like this, it should become easy to see any discrepancies between your register and your statement. Any transactions that are missing can be added, any additional transactions can be moved or removed, and it should be straightforward to bring them in sync.
When you are reconciling an account, a new context-sensitive tab will appear:
This allows you to clear all the selections within the date range, select them all, move transactions up and down, accept the changes or cancel the reconcile.
Accepting the changes will mark each transaction that is checked as Reconciled. If all transactions are reconciled and the end balance matches your target end balance, the reconcile point will be automatically set at the end transaction.
Cancelling the reconcile will remove any balance corrections, and clear the selection.
Please let me know what you think of this way of reconciling statements. I believe it gives the same functionality as the way Microsoft Money and other personal finance applications work, but I think in a more natural way. I deliberately wanted to keep it in-line with your register, because this gives you full flexibility to make adjustments to existing transactions, and it is quicker than switching to a second screen.
Improved Licence Keys
I have rewritten the way licence keys are generated. This change makes them more secure going forwards. Any existing licence keys should continue to work as normal, but please let me know if you have any issues.
Minor Enhancements
- Load time has been improved, postponing unnecessary data loads on non-visible tabs, and moving some integrity checks to the background
- Checkbox added to enable Mobile Sync
- Onedrive added as a service in Mobile Sync
- Updater is now named MaximMoney_Updater.exe rather than a random temp filename, to reduce the likelihood of it being flagged as a virus
- Multiple sync accounts can now be supported on each service (i.e. if you have multiple data files in Maxim Money)
- Have renamed "Reconciling" tab to "Matching" which is more appropriate, and to distinguish from the new Reconcile feature.
- The first newly imported transaction is scrolled to after an import
- Reported errors that have been fixed in a more recent version should now say so when being reported
- Fixed issue where account balance could be incorrectly calculated after merging two transactions
- Fixed bug where transactions could lose their payee
- Fixed issue where preferred price source being set to None was being ignored
- Fixed Key already exists error adding categories to list
- Fixed error scrolling account to bottom
- Fixed issue where calculated cross-rates could go stale if other rates updated
