Custom Price Sources
In Settings > Pricing, you can now right-click in the sources list and select Add Price Source.
This will add a new entry to the list. There are two key things you need to add here.
- URL: The URL that you want to query. You can use the template {CODE} in your URL if you want to re-use the same price source for multiple securities, if the security code makes up part of the URL. E.g. https://www.test.com/{CODE} would look up https://www.test.com/MSFT (assuming MSFT was the security code).
- Source: This is the address of the element from the page that you want to extract. To find this out, you need to load your web page, bring up Dev Tools (by pressing F12 in Chrome). Click on the Select an element button (or Ctrl-Shift-C in Chrome), hover over the price on the page, then click it. You should see the relevant part of the source code highlighted. Right-click on this, select Copy > Copy selector. This should copy a path such as:
Code: Select all
#ticker > div > section > div.ticker-main > div.wrapper.flex-container.ticker-header > span.ticker-price > div > span.last-price.larger-font-size.bold-font-weight > span
- Financial Websites do not like their data being scraped. If they suspect you are doing this, they may well block your connection. Maxim Money connects to the websites as though it was a normal browser, so this should not happen if you are careful. However, to reduce the likelihood of being blacklisted, please ensure you reduce the frequency that you poll for prices.
- This method of obtaining prices depends on the website structure remaining static. If any changes are made to the website, the lookup will break, and you will need to re-obtain the element selector, as above.
