Editing "Correct Balance" Entries

Post by Frelon »

I have a Stocks and Shares ISA account with an online bank and the only info given when I go online is the current value of the ISA, no other information!

I have this account listed in my Maxim Money as an Investment Account. However, without doing some offline arithmetic it is not easy to see what amounts I should enter into the Add Deposit/Add Payment section as this information is not given by the bank!

I have therefore resorted to using the Correct Balance feature of Maxim Money, which works well. However, the Payee is then marked as Correcting Balance, with no apparent way of editing this entry to show the correct definition of this increase/decrease in value of the ISA!

I feel sure that other Maxim Money users may find it easier to edit Correct Balance entries having found the missing transaction(s), rather than to enter the transaction and then delete the Correct Balance entry!

I agree that the Correct Balance transaction should be editable, but only for changing the balance.

I also use the Correct Balance feature to track the value of some of my investments. However, I plan to introduce an "Update Valuation" feature on investment accounts which would replace this. This would have a similar effect, but would allow you to attribute a payee and category (or perhaps it should pick up the payee from the account holder?). I also plan to allow the valuation to be entered as a fixed amount, or tracked as a percentage.

The benefit of the latter, would be for example, if you know house prices have risen in your area by 2% in the last quarter, you could record that directly in your house asset account. You could then enter any known valuations of the house at any point within the account, and the percentage adjustments would automatically track the value of the asset.
