Reporting

Any way to just get an income statement or balance sheet report. I am used to reading income statements so i can see each month my flows in each income and expense account but i cant seem to just pull an income statement. Maybe its already in there and i just cant find it.

Can you give me a bit more detail of what you're looking for here? Is it just a list of income and expenses over a time period (year/month)?

I am also very much waiting for reports.
Every year with Microsoft Money I make these reports:
1. Overview of my bank accounts on 31/12
2. Category spending: This is a list of all incomes and expenses by subcategory.
This list is very big. I keep it as a file.
NOTE: Microsoft Money allows you to copy/paste a list you make.
I will then reduce this file by using the totals for some subcategories (dining out/ groceries/ electricity ......)
Some categories I keep as they are.
This list takes about 14 pages and this I print
3. a list total per category. This gives yearly expenses for bank charges, bills, car, house, household, horses, pets ...
This allows me to compare the category spending every year. I have an excel file with all the years since I started with Microsoft Money.
NOTE: in Microsoft money there is no different category for income or expense. Example:
Insurance is normally a cost but sometimes you get a return on an insurance (when car is sold) - this comes in insurance in Microsoft Money.
In MM it would be an income category insurance

I need to add a new type of report "Account Balances" for this, but it's on my list.

This should be possible, creating a Transactions report filtered by date, grouped by Primary Category, displaying Date, Account, Payee and Amount.

3. a list total per category. This gives yearly expenses for bank charges, bills, car, house, household, horses, pets ...

I'm not sure how this differs from report (2)? Unless this is Primary Category and report (2) is Secondary Category?

NOTE: in Microsoft money there is no different category for income or expense. Example:

In MM it would be an income category insurance

I'm not sure how this is different? You can still assign income and expenses against the same category in Maxim Money.

Sorry - I was in a hurry and images (copy paste) were not added.
First I make a list of category spending. See M1 This is a very big list. I only keep it in a file.
Then I eliminate a lot of entries there. It is an excel file and I can delete the lines that are not interesting.
This gives me list M2
You see that where M1 shows every bank charge that was booked the second list only shows the total bank charges.
I keep a lot of details but I also eliminate a lot.
Whilst this first list contains 60 pages. The second only contains 12.
I print this list.
Then I make a list per category (this is a separate list in Microsoft Money.
It gives me only the total of every category (no subcategories)
This is a much smaller list - again in excel - that I copy in an overview to compare the spending per year.
If there are sudden higher totals in a category I add a comment (clothing : mink coat)
Note: the added files are shown in wrong sequence - first is M3- then M2-then M1

Soothing like this. Once we have a report like this we can adjust expense categories to show what we need.

As for Income categories; i had to create other income categories for like insurance, interest and others as different types on Income come in. this is fine but we should see on the income statement as different types of income.

Expense categories should show and then be rolled up to the categories. ie insurance > car; insurance > home should show but also have the ability to roll up into insurance.

Ok, thanks for this. It looks like you're both broadly looking for the same thing.

The closest thing at the moment, is just to create a Transactions report, grouped by Year, then Category.

I will have a go at creating something similar to the above when I next work on Reports, allowing bucketisation of values by Category and grouping by values in columns.

this would be great. an income statement and a balance sheet report would be best. these are pretty standard business reports and should be easy to put together.

Any update on this? Would be great to have this for the end of the year.

I’m afraid I won’t have an update for reporting before the year end, but it is my next to priority after MTD.
