Default Categories

Post by Campbell »

I'm working on a major revamp of categories for the next release. As part of this, I will be creating a default list of categories on new projects.

The list I currently have is as follows:

Code: Select all

Income
	- Employment
		- Bonuses
		- Commission
		- Expenses
		- Salary & wages
	- Gift Received
	- Interest
	- Investment Income
		-Capital Gains
		- Dividends
		- Interest
	- Other Income
	- Rental Income

Expense
	- Art
	- Bank Charge
	- Charity
		- Donations
	- Childcare
	- Clothing
	- Clubs
	- Dining
	- Education
	- Entertainment
	- Gifts
	- Groceries
	- Health
		- Dental
		- Gym
	- Holidays
	- Household
	- Insurance
	- Interest
	- Investment Expense
	- Legal
	- Loans
	- Housing
		- Mortgage
		- Rent
	- Motor
		- Breakdown cover
		- Finance
		- Fuel
		- Insurance
		- Parking
		- Tax
		- Service
	- Other Expense
	- Pets
	- Personal
		- Hair
	- Recreation
	- Subscriptions
	- Savings
	- Tax
		- Capital Gains
		- Council Tax
		- Income Tax
	- Transport
	- Utilities
		- Electricity
		- Gas
		- Internet
		- Phone
		- Water
Does everyone think this is a sensible default, or should I add/remove/amend anything?

We can always add categories can we?
I have some special categories.
General I would add:
Computer/Office
In Utilities : Alarm maintenance
And: Waiting account where I put sums that have to paid or received

Do you need Dutch translation?

Thanks, Alarm is a good one, I'll add that.

And yes, the categories will be completely configurable, so you can add/modify/delete as you please.

Regarding translations, this is something I would like to do, but it will be further down the line when I have more of the basics in place. But I will probably ask for your help then if that's ok?

It would be good if you could offer a choice of an essential list of categories and a full list. I don't tend to use the investment or budget side of a program. Usually I am importing data from another program so want to import the categories that I already have. Obviously different to anyone starting from scratch or with investments so the choice would be good.
