Attaching more than one attachment

Adding attachments to transactions has been a big plus for Maxim Money, something that Microsoft missed completely in MS Money!

I sometimes wish to attach more than one attachment to a transaction. First attachment would be a copy receipt for an item purchased (for proof of purchase) but I would also like to add a Warrantee document showing dates and conditions of the purchase.

Any chance of building this into the plan for future updates of Maxim Money?

Ok, that's an interesting suggestion. There's no reason this couldn't be done, so I'll add it to my list.

This is what it looks like in Moneyspire!

Does Moneyspire embed the attachments within the data file, or are they just links to external files? I was wondering about this, as if they're not embedded the attachments won't be transferred if you move the MMY file to a different machine. But if they are embedded, the data file could get huge, and it would make saving a much slower process.

Currently Maxim Money just retains links to external files. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Wow I did not know you could attach a file.
I use special Reference numbers for this. I have a file where these documents are stored.
I agree storing the attachments in Maxim Money might slow down the saving (and opening?) process.
As I mentioned before opening is much slower than my old Microsoft Money

Did you check the log to see exactly what was going on? My experience suggests Maxim is around the same or quicker than Microsoft Money to start up, so I wonder if the difference you are seeing is down to the version check or prices update?

I have price update set to manual so that cannot be the cause.
I unchecked the version check. It made no difference.
Maxim Money takes 13 seconds to open. Microsoft Money 1 second.
I am sending you the screen recordings by We Transfer.
My Maxim Money file is 278 KB. My Money file is 10.256kb

Ah - wait - I see in the log that it has to do with updating the currencies.
I cannot add the log (.log not permitted as attachment) but added screenshot.
Will send the log by mail
The screen capture will not be necessary I think

Wow, ok, that's quite a different experience to me. This is an extract from my log:

Code: Select all

2025-12-09 10:35:08.7123 [Info General]: Application Started
2025-12-09 10:35:10.1492 [Info Licensing]: Valid Pro licence mZDhIZwOmrwWRUdVVctB found.
2025-12-09 10:35:11.9975 [Debug Pricing]: Updating rate on 31/12/1990 for GBP/USD to 1.784103 from Manual
2025-12-09 10:35:11.9975 [Debug Pricing]: Updating rate on 31/12/1991 for GBP/USD to 1.767354 from Manual
So between the licence check and the first price update takes 1.8 seconds for me, and 7 seconds for you. I'll have a look and see if I can spot anything that could be causing this, as this is before the data file is even loaded.

Why does the program need to update currencies from 31 december from15 years back?
These are not changing anymore

Those are static rates that get set when you create a new session. This happens before your data file is loaded.
