Hi Howard,
I think it's just a case of tweaking the report.
The Income and Expenses report defaults to filtering on transaction type (Deposit and Payment).
A dividend in Maxim Money has two sides. The dividend transaction itself, a transaction in the investment account which generates the dividend cash amount, and the the resultant cash transfer into the nominated account.
Presumably you are looking to include the cash side of the dividend transaction? If so, you would need to make sure the transaction type Transfer In was selected in your report filters. You may need to add further filters to refine that if that brings in other unwanted transactions.
I admit I still have a bit of work to do regarding categories on investment transactions, but it should be possible to assign a category to your dividend transactions. The easiest way would be to view the cash side of the transaction and assign it there, and it should already be possible to set distinct values for yourself and your wife.

Re: MS Money File Conversion
Hi Campbell,
Yes, that's exactly what I want to do.
Using 'Transfer In' brings back every transfer in every account I've selected.
Can't find any way to categorise the cash transaction - if I try to edit it (double click) there's no category field to update
and if I right click and select edit I can only cut / paste, no category available.
Just noticed that none of the Account Number data has been brought across during the conversion, no big deal, but it would be nice.

Yes, it would do by default. There actually isn't a great way to restrict this - I can see I need to add Transfer Transaction Type to allow filtering on transfers created by dividends.
I think for now, you would be best creating a filter like so:
And then to solve your other issue, rather than double-clicking on the dividend, if you click on the little green down-right arrow, it will take you to the cash side of the transaction. This should look like a normal transaction and you should be able to assign the category there.
I will add Category to the Investment Transaction form. Microsoft Money has default categories for the various investment transactions. I should probably do something similar, but I haven't worked out how best this should work.

Re: MS Money File Conversion
Tried this and seemed to work - however on next startup I get the message -
Looks like I've disconnected the investment / cash accounts somehow. Asks if I want to try and fix it but just seems
to start up and no message on what to do.

Re: MS Money File Conversion
Hi Howard,
This error means in your HSBC ISA (Cash) account, there is a transaction into the Shell account (presumably a Buy, Sell or Dividend), but that transaction does not appear to exist in the Shell account.
I think the safest thing to do here is to locate the transaction in your HSBC ISA (Cash) account (dated 22/09/25) and delete it, then re-add the investment transaction.
Do you have any idea what you did before the error? Obviously data integrity issues are my top priority, so very keen to figure out how this happened.

Re: MS Money File Conversion
Sorry, no idea what I did, if anything.
I did as suggested, deleted the cash transaction and then added the dividend transaction to the investment account - everything is
fine now with no errors at startup and account values balance.
I've categorised the cash transactions and tailored the Income and Expense by Tax Year report - everything looked good,
went back to the report this morning and it no longer contains the customisation I put in and the simple / advanced toggle
doesn't work.
Is there a way to create a new report from one of the existing ones and then tailor it ?
Noticed a couple of other things from the conversion - Account numbers / details aren't carried across and neither are financial
institutions data - no big deal as the amount of data to be entered can be done manually (in my case !)

No problem, I will spend some time on it and see if I can replicate.Sorry, no idea what I did, if anything.
The toggle is greyed out if you change the Advanced filter to something that can't be represented by a Simple filter (e.g. it has OR logic, or fields that the simple filter doesn't contain). What customisation did you lose?the simple / advanced toggle doesn't work
No, but that's a great idea, so I'll add this to my list.Is there a way to create a new report from one of the existing ones and then tailor it ?
I have imported Financial Institution data in the next release. Account numbers are more tricky - it turns out they are encrypted even inside the MNY database. I have managed to come up with a way to decrypt them, but only if you supply Maxim Money with a known value. So hopefully that's an acceptable solution - at least it means just pasting/typing one value, rather than all accounts.Account numbers / details aren't carried across and neither are financial institutions data

These have both been added to v1.11.0.1.Noticed a couple of other things from the conversion - Account numbers / details aren't carried across and neither are financial
