Additional field for security identification
Additional field for security identification
A field situated alongside the ticker code enabling users to insert a short description for each security would aid in identifying them - while tickers for most equities are self evident, GB00BD3RZ582 gives little clue as to the fund’s identity.
Re: Additional field for security identification
This relates to the Prices & FX Rates screen.
A couple of questions around this if I may. I am using prices obtained from Yahoo Finance. I tried using FT.com but it seems the FT JSON is no longer compatible with Maxim Money. So, I am having to use Yahoo and might as well set it as the default option – how do I do that please? Price Source gives the options of Default, None or Yahoo Finance. I have set each security to have Yahoo Finance as the source but cannot see how to set Yahoo as the default.
Secondly, I am continuing, for the present, to use Microsoft Money, importing the latest .mny file each time I run Maxim Money. This works fine with only three of four things to alter each time other than for the larger chore of having to change 30 plus security codes to enable Maxim Money to update using Yahoo Finance prices. I don’t suppose there is any way round this?

Re: Additional field for security identification
Ah ok. I should be able to make the columns configurable, and allow the security name there if that helps?
So did the FT json used to be compatible? Have you tried adding FT.com as a custom price source in Settings > Pricing?
I think Microsoft Money only has a single entry for the security symbol, so I can't think of an easy way to do this. I will probably allow multiple identifiers later (Ticker, Sedol, ISIN etc), but that still wouldn't help here.

Re: Additional field for security identification
Yes, configurable columns would help. I guess the field would be accessed and populated via the Edit Security field.
So far as FT pricing is concerned yes, I did try adding it via Settings, Pricing. I enlisted the help of MS Co-Pilot which suggested
I use https://markets.ft.com/data/equities/te ... ?s={TICKER} as the URL.
However, to work (according to Co-Pilot) it seems that FT needs to have settings of:
Price Field: json.data.price
Date Field: json.data.lastUpdated
Price Multiplier: 1
Max Calls:1
Period: 1h
API Key: is not required
Again, according to Co-Pilot, in Maxim Money:
If Source Type = HTML, you only see: Name, URL, and Calls per hour.
If Source Type = JSON, you see: Price Field, Date Field, Multiplier, JSON extraction options
I could not see a way to alter the Source type. Of course, given that the suggestions came from by Co-Pilot all the above could be completely incorrect!
It would be good if FT could be made to work as it contains the price for one of my fund holdings which Yahoo Finance does not show.
Finally, I note what you say regarding my code entry problem. However, the additional identifier field would help a little!
