Back up date should be the date you added something

I already mentioned this in previous post about the latest build.
Today 2/11 I worked on my MMfiles and saved the changes.
I see these backups:

I find it strange that the numbers of the backups change.
bak1 was on my pc. This changed in bak2 when bak1 was added date 16/10. How are files on my pc changed?????
Today the numbers changed again.
bak1 date 17/10 must be today's backup (2/11) or is this the file before I changed it??????
I tried to open the back file to see if todays changes are added but the bak files do not show in the file list.

Maxim Money creates one backup file each day you use the application. bak1 is always the most recent, bak2 the next most recent etc. So each time a backup is made, bak2 is copied to bak3, bak1 to bak2 and the main file to bak1. This makes it easier to know which is your most recent backup if you ever have to restore.

The backup files won't show in your recent files list, unless you have opened them. You can of course, just open them normally.

Still I think it would be more logical to have 1 as oldest.
The date showing tells you which is newest also.
But that is not the most important thing.

I now opened the last file (bak 1) and I see the changes I made on 2/11 are not on it.
This I think is unacceptable.
The last backup should always show the last changes made.

I ordered from 1 being newest because the number of backup copies is configurable.

Regarding latest changes not being in the bak1 file, this is just because the backup strategy is based on changes, so each file contains a different days worth of data. When I make the backup folder configurable, I can change this so bak1 (or maybe bak0) contains an identical copy of the master file. As it stands at the moment, there wouldn't be much point in having identical data stored in the same folder as the master file.

My Microsoft Money backup goes to a different partition.
They backup all you have entered when you close the program.
And yes I would opt for making backup of everything - the last entries included.

I find your way of backing up strange.
When do you create the back-up? When you open the file? Because if you make it at the end and something goes wrong you loose the work of the day but also of the previous day and that may be difficult to reproduce.

The backups are created just before the main file is saved. But I will add the configuration option for the backup folder for the next release.

But until now your backup did not contain the last changes (because you did not see the use for 2 identical files).
Will the copy now be identical to the file saved in the normal folder? So: contain all changes?

Yes, I added an additional backup of the main file, as long as the backup folder is distinct from the main file folder.
